Below is a list of the natural and eco-conscious products that we love and use to make sure we are keeping in tip top health. From nutrition and books, to vitamins and inspirational gear, the health of ourselves and our families are major priorities.

It can be expensive, difficult and overwhelming to find products that we can use in our daily lives to improve our overall health and well-being, so we’ve dug and tested to give you our best recommendations. Before we dig in, some notes on our links.

We are always on the lookout for products and tools to help us feel our very best, and the below are our go-to’s in our time-crunched and busy lives.

 

BLUEPRINT CLEANSE
The only raw organic juice cleanse we recommend is by BluePrint Cleanse. Popular among celebrities before red carpet season, as well as having been an Eastern health tradition for centuries, juice detoxes using BluePrint Cleanse offers various juice packs and lengths of detoxes. Bottles are numbered so you know in what order to drink each juice during a detox. Best of all, we are never ever hungry while on a BluePrint Cleanse (we do 3-days straight of BluePrint Cleanse juices only and no solid foods). In fact, due to how nutrient-dense its juices are, we have to force ourselves to finish each day of the cleanse because of how full we are throughout the day. Raw juice cleanses are a great way to reset your system (like after a long vacation), to beat junk food cravings, support the immune system, and to actually shed a few pounds safely and naturally.

Laura Ehlers is our go-to gal for anything nutrition and diet related, as she holds a Masters degree in nutrition and is currently a professional nutritionist. VITAMINS & SUPPLEMENTS
Below is a list of our favorite natural vitamins and supplements, each supporting various functions to help us achieve our highest performance and quality of life. As with any dietary change, please consult your healthcare professional before starting a new diet, workout, vitamin or supplement routine.

SLEEP: Theanine
Theanine is an all-natural amino acid found in green tea that promotes deeper sleep and REM cycle sleep. The particular version by Jarrow Formulas helps us both fall asleep and stay asleep. If you take the maximum recommended dosage (2 pills), make sure to take it at least 10 hours before you plan to wake up (because this will want to keep you asleep!), and 2 hours after your last meal (it works best on an emptier stomach). We’ve ditched the melatonin completely after finding Theanine.

 

ENERGY: Methyl B-12
B-12 is a natural vitamin found in foods, and increasing B-12 supplementation has worked wonders to increase our energy throughout the day (without the afternoon crash that coffee or other caffeine can give). We like to take 2 tablets of the B-12 by Jarrow Formulas (they are chewable and taste like cherries) in the mornings (empty or full stomach), and will even pop an additional tablet around 2pm if we’re just struggling that day.

 

STRESS RELIEVER: Sam-E
On days where we just have a feeling that sh*t is going to hit the fan, we take 1 tablet of Sam-E. This natural supplement is an amino acid that helps with joints and brain function, as well as mood. We don’t know the biology behind it, but Sam-E has consistently proven to help quell anxiety and worry, and also help with emotionally dealing with difficult situations. We take B-12 and Sam-E on days where we know things are going to get messy with life.

“The Sleep Revolution” by Arianna Huffington
Yeah, we want you to read a book about sleep. Getting more sleep has been our biggest productivity and mood booster. Arianna Huffington, founder of the famous Huffington Post, talks about the importance of sleep as well as how to actually get more sleep. It’s still a constant struggle for us as well being a budding start up company, but we would rather feel good and running at optimal levels versus making poor decisions and feeling sh*tty due to exhaustion.

 

“Hardwiring Happiness” by Rick Hanson
Backed by extensive medical and clinical research in neuroscience, physiology and psychology, author Rick Hanson dives into ways to actually re-shape both our thinking and our physical brain (think cells and tissue) in order to shape an attitude for happiness. Science proves over and over that we can actually “hardwire happiness” through conscious design, so that our brains will automatically look to the brighter side (even when life gets dark and gloomy). A must-read for those who want to find ways to live a happier and more optimistic daily life.

 

“The End of Stress” by Don Joseph Goewey
Even though stress has become apart of our lives, there are ways to overcome the detrimental health consequences caused by chronic stress such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, depression, and anxiety. Goewey’s book outlines 4 useful, doable strategies to manage stress and overcome it effectively. Incorporating his tactics in any given stressful situation will reduce stress hormones flooding your body, which may help improve your health, in the long run, thus living a happier, more productive life.

 

“The Mind Illuminated: A Complete Mediation Guide Integrating Buddhist Wisdom and Brain Science” by John Yates, Matthew Immergut, & Jeremy Graves
An excellent step-by-step guide on how to meditate to help you reach your desired level of clarity or zen. Yates and his team also incorporate how meditation is great for your brain and its physiological functions. Meditation helps to quiet your mind so you can become more centered, think more clearly, stay focused throughout the day, and provides a way for your brain to rest in order to stay healthy. Meditation isn’t just for gurus or religious practice anymore, but rather a habit that the world’s highest-level performers (think Olympians and billionaires) do on a daily basis.

 

KINDLE E-BOOK READER
In order to read all these books, we love the Kindle Paperwhite e-book reader. Besides being virtually indestructible, the Kindle Paperwhite does a fantastic job of reproducing the look and feel of a paper book (which is important for less eye strain). We love printed books and were wary of switching to an e-reader, but the Kindle Paperwhite version both feels like a traditional physical book, and we get instant gratification of downloading an e-book from the Kindle library in 2 seconds (versus waiting days for a paper book to arrive in the mail or driving to a bookstore).
